Zelina character design for ETHEREAL - a concept for an iPad adventure game.
NOTES ON THIS PIECE -----------------------
This character turnaround was drawn in Adobe Illustrator CS5.5 (using Bamboo Create tablet and the blob brush!) and colored in Photoshop CS5.5. The originals were drawn with pencil, of course.
The costume is certainly fantasy but the inspiration came from a few places: small nods to Zelina being a "gypsy" in the form of the layered fabrics and the dangling coins; military detailing to tie in the spirit of a fighting/adventure game; the silhouette of a roughly 1860s-era dress for a young girl; a Robin Hood hat for a touch of fantasy. Here she is shown with her sword, but she also has a wand weapon.
ABOUT ETHEREAL -----------------------
Ethereal is set in a mystical Victorian-inspired world where the characters and symbols in tarot cards have been brought to life. The game follows Zelina, a young fortune teller who is pulled into the world of Ethereal and must fight an array of ghosts, demons, devils, and other creatures.
